Orthopedic Care Nurse Specialist

Responsibilities

As an Orthopedic Care Nurse Specialist at Flaget Memorial Hospital, you will deliver high-quality nursing care to patients of varying age groups by utilizing the nursing process and nursing practice standards. You will maintain competency and application of scientific knowledge necessary to meet patient needs. You will demonstrate organizational skills, providing ease in the flow of work. You will be knowledgeable and supportive of the hospital, department, and nursing unit philosophies.

Essential Key Job Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct care assessments and interpret assessment data to determine care needs and constraints in meeting these needs.
  2. Successfully complete system-based and hospital-specific competencies.
  3. Maintain accurate documentation of observations, treatments, teaching, medications, care given, patient response, and integrate into plan of care.
  4. In collaboration with patients and families, evaluate, plan, direct, and administer care to the patient. Implement plan of care based upon established standards of care/practice, policies, and procedures, incorporating cultural, religious, psychosocial, physical, and age-related issues.
  5. Possess knowledge of medications and administer safely and accurately.
  6. Appropriately delegate and supervise routine technical functions to non-licensed and licensed personnel.
  7. In collaboration with the patient/family, evaluate patient outcomes and revise the patient's plan of care.
  8. Negotiate with the patient/family and healthcare team members to come to an acceptable resolution of conflicts resulting from patient care or organizational issues.
  9. Demonstrate an appreciation of the hospital mission as a teaching institution by acting as a resource for employees, students, and residents.
  10. Be supportive of patient and family-centered care, promoting that environment within the care provided. Include family and patient in plan of care, providing teaching and support where needed.
  11. Perform other duties assigned by authorized personnel or as required to meet the needs of the facility, and internal and external customers.

Qualifications

Required Education:

Graduation from an accredited/approved school of nursing. BSN preferred.

Required Licensure and Certifications:

Current Registered Nurse license in Kentucky. BLS, ACLS, PALS required. Specialty certifications required based upon unit specifications.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Minimum two years of experience as an RN in an acute care facility.

For Critical Care areas, two years of Critical Care experience required.

For Telemetry areas, one year of Telemetry required, two years preferred.

Must be knowledgeable of current nursing practices.

PREFERRED Qualifications:

NRP, TNCC preferred.

Pay Range

$30.00 - $43.50 / hour
