**Job Summary**

The City of New York is seeking a skilled and compassionate NYC Veteran Housing Navigator to join our team. As a key member of our Department of Veterans' Services, you will play a vital role in connecting homeless veterans with safe and affordable housing. **About Us**

The NYC Department of Veterans' Services (DVS) is dedicated to serving our city's veterans. Our team is committed to providing essential services and programs focused on economic empowerment, housing security, benefits, health and wellness, and culture. As a Veteran Housing Navigator, you will be part of a dynamic team that works tirelessly to end veteran homelessness and provide a system for rapid rehousing.

**Responsibilities**

* Manage a caseload of homeless veterans, providing peer-to-peer housing assistance and support throughout the housing process.
* Work collaboratively with the DVS Housing & Support Services unit, reporting to the Senior Director Housing Support Services, Deputy Director Housing Support Service, and Senior Veteran Housing Coordinator.
* Provide intake and update client information as new details emerge.
* Present housing needs to DVS housing staff and external partners for assistance in finding suitable housing.
* Coordinate and attend interviews, acquire and submit necessary applications, and support financial documentation and forms.
* Navigate rental subsidy and inspection processes, and coordinate with landlords and shelters to ensure smooth transitions into permanent housing.

**Unit Support**

* Provide cross-team support for Aftercare Services and Veteran Resource Centers (VRC) client walk-ins and phone calls.
* Assist with logistical support for client move-ins.
* Help the HSS unit comply with office systems, procedures, and reporting requirements.
* Participate in unit or agency-wide projects as needed.
* Represent the unit or agency at relevant interagency and external stakeholder meetings.

**Requirements**

* A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community-centered activities.
* High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community-centered activities.
* Education and/or experience equivalent to the above requirements, with at least one year of experience as described.

**Preferred Skills**

* Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
* Proven commitment to values-based culture and a collaborative work environment.
* Ability to work comfortably with diverse populations with sensitivity to veterans' issues.
* Case management and/or project management experience.
* Excellent record-keeping skills and experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
* Valid driver's license strongly preferred.
* Prior service in the United States Armed Forces and/or experience working with the veteran community a bonus.

**Compensation and Benefits**

The estimated salary for this position is $65,000 - $80,000 per year, depending on experience. As a City of New York employee, you may be eligible for federal loan forgiveness programs and state repayment assistance programs. **Residency Requirement**

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
