Position Overview:

The Heavy Machinery Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring the operational efficiency of various equipment, including but not limited to Wheel Loaders, Forklifts, and Material Handlers. This position also involves assisting with facility maintenance as required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct timely repairs and replacements of damaged or worn components to facilitate seamless operations.
  • Dismantle and reassemble heavy machinery utilizing hoists and an array of hand tools.
  • Adjust spark plug gaps, valves, distributors, fuel injection systems, and carburetors.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks such as cleaning and lubricating equipment and vehicles.
  • Overhaul and test machinery to confirm optimal performance and efficiency.
  • Maintain and repair equipment powered by gasoline, diesel, and natural gas, including the use of hydraulic jacks or hoists.
  • Operate and inspect heavy machinery to identify defects and malfunctions.
  • Test mechanical products and equipment post-repair to ensure compliance with manufacturer specifications.
  • Fit bearings for adjustments, repairs, or overhauls of mobile mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Document detailed records of time spent, materials utilized, and parts ordered.
  • Diagnose faults using engine diagnostic tools and calibration devices.
  • Inspect components for signs of damage or excessive wear.
  • Adhere to safety protocols consistently, utilizing appropriate safety gear and equipment.
  • Employ proper safety techniques and equipment as necessary.

Team Collaboration:

  • Engage effectively with colleagues to foster a collaborative work environment.
  • Proactively inform management of any unsafe conditions to mitigate risks.

General Responsibilities:

  • Regular attendance and physical presence at work are essential for this role.

Qualifications:

Education and Certifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • A valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL), preferably Class B.
  • Air brake certification is preferred.
  • Proficient knowledge in repairing components of heavy trucks and machinery, including suspensions, hydraulics, drivelines, electrical systems, brakes, and engines.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in heavy truck repair and maintenance.
  • Hydraulic system experience is preferred.
  • Experience as a diesel engine technician is required.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficient in operating industrial power and hand tools.
  • Ability to adapt to procedural changes.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrate safety awareness in the workplace.
  • Capability to operate both standard and automatic transmission vehicles.
  • Ability to drive heavy trucks and operate equipment such as forklifts and end loaders.

Working Conditions:

  • Knowledge of repairing components of heavy trucks and machinery, including suspensions, hydraulics, drivelines, electrical systems, brakes, and engines.
  • Noise levels may vary from moderate to high, requiring personal hearing protection at times.
  • Work will be conducted both indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Job tasks may occur on construction sites with uneven terrain.
  • Local travel may be necessary.

Physical Requirements:

  • Regularly required to communicate effectively; frequently required to stand, walk, use hands, and reach with arms.
  • Occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Must be able to operate controls on various equipment.
  • Ability to navigate through plants, yards, and job sites as necessary.
  • Regularly lift and move up to 50 pounds; occasionally lift and move up to 100 pounds.
