Position Overview

Location: YMCA of the Suncoast

Compensation: $15.00/hr. - $16.30/hr.

Schedule: Full-time role, Monday to Friday with varying hours from early morning to late afternoon.

ROLE SUMMARY:

This position plays a vital role in fulfilling the YMCA's commitment to enhancing community well-being by fostering positive interactions with all members, including children, parents, staff, and volunteers.

The Youth Program Coordinator is accountable for the daily management of the program operations, ensuring compliance with all relevant licensing standards. This role collaborates with leadership to guide and inspire the team towards achieving organizational objectives while adhering to established policies and procedures.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee and manage the complete operation of the School Age Program.
  • Foster a safe and nurturing environment by monitoring activities and reporting any concerns that may jeopardize child safety. Ensure that all staff adhere to established policies and facilitate engaging, age-appropriate activities while maintaining an organized and clean facility.
  • Ensure compliance with all licensing regulations and maintain accurate records for children, employees, and volunteers.
  • Manage fee collection and maintain weekly financial reports. Understand and oversee the budget, communicate any discrepancies, and implement necessary cost controls.
  • Effectively respond to emergency situations and ensure proper documentation is completed.
  • Design and implement lesson plans that promote social-emotional development, academic growth, and enrichment opportunities for children.
  • Participate in and support branch initiatives and programs. Inform members about YMCA services and connect them to available resources.
  • Recruit, train, supervise, and mentor staff and volunteers, fostering a culture of leadership and community engagement.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with children, parents, volunteers, staff, and community members. Engage in school-related committees to strengthen community ties.
  • Support the YMCA's strategic initiatives by:
    A. Promoting volunteerism and educating members about opportunities.
    B. Encouraging philanthropic efforts by sharing personal experiences and motivating participation in fundraising activities.
    C. Celebrating member achievements in health and wellness.
    D. Nurturing youth potential through meaningful programming.

Qualifications:

Upon hiring, completion of specific training programs is required within designated timeframes. A high school diploma or equivalent is necessary, along with a minimum of six college credit hours in early childhood education or a related field. A degree in a child-related discipline is preferred.

Experience: Prior experience in child care and supervisory roles is essential.

Certifications: Candidates must obtain state-mandated training within the first month of employment, with completion required within one year. CPR/AED and First Aid certifications are mandatory within the first three months.

Physical Requirements: Candidates must be at least 21 years old, capable of standing for extended periods, lifting up to 50 pounds, and facilitating group activities.

Mental Requirements: Candidates should possess mental alertness and the ability to follow instructions effectively.

Skills: Strong supervisory, coaching, and management skills are necessary, along with knowledge of children's programming.
