As a Pharmacy Technician, you will be responsible for processing prescriptions for patients and their families in the clinic setting. You will collect medication histories, fill scripts, and coordinate payments in conjunction with pharmacist direction.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Determine patient insurance requirements for pre-certification, patient payments, and coverage limitations.
  • Maintain communication with ambulatory-based clinical pharmacists, social workers, discharge, and specialty pharmacy program team members to obtain complete, accurate financial information required for claim adjudication.
  • Immediately communicate any issue with coverage to the clinical practice to determine the appropriate next steps.
  • Communicate benefit investigation information proactively to the clinical practices and to patients.
  • Support all services as needed.
  • Collaborate with internal team members to gather appropriate paperwork, prescription, billing information, and/or prescription(s).
  • Provide follow-up relating to the communication to patients, clinical practices, and family for pharmaceutical needs and/or additional eligibility information to ensure ongoing medication access.
  • Interact with medical staff and their designees to obtain complete, accurate, and timely clinical and financial information required for payer reimbursement.
  • Provide education to patients and clinical practices regarding patient insurance coverage as it relates to their discharge medications.
  • Perform duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organization.

Credentials:

  • Pharmacy Technician certification (CPhT) is required.
  • High school graduate/equivalent is required.
  • Looking for strong retail experience in candidates, but open to a mix of retail and specialty/inpatient/pbm.
