Accounting Manager Role
The Accounting Manager is a key member of our team at PCL Construction, responsible for overseeing daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly accounting functions. This includes managing accounts payable, accounts receivable, check run, payroll, and other financial tasks in accordance with legislation, contract terms, and company policies.
Responsibilities
- Implement and monitor accounting and payroll policies and procedures to ensure the effectiveness of the Accounting and Payroll departments.
- Review and analyze financial adjustments, submissions, and reports, ensuring timely completion and addressing any issues or discrepancies.
- Provide ad-hoc reports and analysis, presenting information to district management as required.
- Manage and prepare district review and year-end documents.
- Oversee the district cash-flow cycle, providing recommendations for improvements as needed.
- Ensure all required documentation, including insurance, bonding, and statutory declarations, is in place and renewed accordingly.
- Collaborate with the district to provide guidance on contract and subcontract interpretation and negotiation.
- Proactively identify and mitigate potential risks, capitalizing on opportunities.
- Ensure payments to trade partners, suppliers, and service providers are made in compliance with contract terms.
- Manage internal and external financial audits as applicable.
Qualifications
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in a related field.
- Accounting designation preferred.
- 6 years of progressive accounting experience in construction or a related industry, with on-site project experience an asset.
- 1-2 years of supervisory experience preferred.
- Advanced construction knowledge and understanding of general construction terms and processes.
- Expert knowledge of full-cycle accounting, with the ability to teach and mentor junior staff.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with a high level of detail orientation.
- Ability to effectively handle difficult situations.
- Exhibits strong management skills, with the ability to delegate and coordinate activities effectively.
