Position Overview

As a vital member of our healthcare team, the Certified Nursing Assistant and Phlebotomy Specialist is responsible for delivering essential daily nursing care and services to assigned patients, adhering to their individualized assessment and care plans under the guidance of the nursing supervisor. This role includes executing phlebotomy tasks with precision, professionalism, and efficiency.

Core Responsibilities

  • Execute all responsibilities in alignment with the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) job code 0101, Department 6300 for HCC.
  • Manage laboratory data collection systems and equipment to ensure accurate ordering, cancellation, and billing of laboratory tests.
  • Accurately identify patients to prevent errors that could impact their treatment.
  • Conduct blood draws primarily from the elderly population.
  • Oversee specimen processing, preparation, and distribution.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of policies and procedures, ensuring strict adherence to infection control protocols while interacting with patients.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, providing reassurance and comfort during interactions. Demonstrate courteous and prompt communication both in person and over the phone, ensuring accurate documentation of all information.
  • Order and manage laboratory supplies efficiently.
  • Ensure cleanliness and proper stocking of all work areas.
  • Handle sensitive information with confidentiality and discretion.
  • Collaborate with the lab manager on laboratory-related matters.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Adhere to all OSHA, CLIA, and federal regulations.
  • Exhibit a professional demeanor and appearance at all times.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proficient in computer skills, including Microsoft Office and other relevant software.
  • Participate in center/agency surveys (Licensure/JCAHO) and prepare necessary reports.
  • Engage in ongoing educational programs to stay updated on industry changes and maintain required licenses/certifications.
  • Attend mandatory in-service training sessions.
  • Respect patients' rights to fair treatment, self-determination, privacy, and civil rights.
  • Comply with corporate compliance protocols.
  • Report any job-related tasks that pose occupational hazards, including exposure to blood and bodily fluids.
  • Follow established safety guidelines, including fire prevention, infection control, and other safety regulations.

Minimum Education Required

High school diploma or equivalent.

Completion of an accredited phlebotomy training program.

Minimum Experience Required

At least 1 year of phlebotomy experience, particularly with geriatric patients.

Minimum Licensure/Certification Required By Law

Active and unrestricted Certified Nursing Assistant certification in the appropriate state.

Phlebotomy Certification.

Valid driver's license.
