The University of Portland is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Automotive Assistant Professional to join our team. This exciting opportunity offers a unique chance to work with a variety of vehicles and equipment, and to develop your skills in preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, and parts management.

About the Job

This role reports directly to the Grounds Manager and will assist the Auto Mechanic in maintaining the university fleet and equipment. Key responsibilities include:

  • Assisting with maintenance tasks such as oil changes, tire rotations, and brake pad replacements
  • Cleaning and organizing the auto shop and inventory areas
  • Driving for parts pick-up and shuttling vehicles to service vendors
  • Parts and inventory management, including data entry

In addition to these key responsibilities, you will also be expected to perform other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you must have a valid driver's license and the ability to drive university vehicles on campus. You must also consent to a driving record background check. Additionally, you should have basic mechanical aptitude and be able to learn and abide by safety policies and procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

A strong preference will be given to candidates who have previous experience with basic vehicle or motorized equipment maintenance, or who have previously used basic hand tools.

Working Conditions

You will be working in a garage environment that may not be fully climate-controlled, and you must be comfortable getting dirty and lifting up to 50 pounds.

Compensation and Benefits

The estimated hourly wage for this position is $15.95, which reflects the current minimum wage in the Portland Metro area. As an employee of the University of Portland, you will also be eligible for a range of benefits, including access to health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.
