About the Job

This position assists the hospital in the care of patients and performs special medical skills/treatments according to their level of knowledge under the supervision of a physician. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of medical procedures and protocols, as well as excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Provides direct patient care, within the scope of their license, with supervision from the physician. This may include medical treatment of wounds at the basic/intermediate/advanced level, wound care, ability to administer medications by pre-established protocol, draw bloodwork, place splints/boots, Foley insertion, use of glucometer, I-STAT, Kurin, vital signs, and IV fluid administration.
  2. Supports physicians, nursing, and hospital administration by acceptance of established objectives, policies and procedures. Demonstrates understanding of and compliance with EMTALA regulations.
  3. Accurately documents patient related tasks.
  4. Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to: respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Graduation from an approved Paramedic Program
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification from the American Heart Association
  • Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) Certification to be obtained within 30 days of hire
  • Paramedic License in the State of Practice
  • Registered Paramedic with the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians

Working Conditions

This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing situations. The physical demands of this job include exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Exposure to blood, body fluid and tissue is routine. The incumbent works in a patient care area and has an occupational risk for exposure to all communicable diseases.
