Job Purpose

To support the successful delivery of substation projects, including capital investment plans, distribution and transmission interconnection projects, and emerging work or new technologies. Substation projects involve equipment replacement, asset separation, rebuilds, and greenfield (new) substations.

Key Accountabilities
  1. Lead multidisciplinary project teams to complete preliminary and final engineering and design for transmission and distribution class substations up to and including 345kV.
  2. Designs include modifications and additions to existing sites and 'green' field (new construction) locations.
  3. Conduct team meetings, coordinate site visits, and site investigations to deliver a detailed scope and design package.
  4. Perform engineering calculations and studies as necessary to support project scope.
  5. Prepare Technical Specifications and work with Procurement to order equipment.
  6. Prepare comprehensive written and oral reports of technical problems, investigative findings, and engineering recommendations.
  7. Support Project Manager, Procurement, Estimating, and Construction Management Processes.
  8. Coordinate with design consultants and interface with internal design staff.
  9. Review drawings associated with projects, including manufacturers' equipment.
  10. Manage consultants' work, ensuring compliance and technical adequacy against approved standards.
  11. Development of standards and procedures.
  12. Support construction and project closeout activities.
Qualifications
  1. A Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited engineering program with an emphasis on Power Systems.
  2. Minimum of 6 years work experience.
  3. E exam preferred. PE license is a plus.
  4. Knowledge of Microsoft Project, CDEGS, Primavera, and/or other similar software tools.
  5. Knowledge of the following is desired: Substation Equipment including Transformers, Breakers, Switches, Reclosers, Metal Clad Switchgear, etc. Substation construction and maintenance techniques, Electric utility operation Practices, Preliminary Analysis including AC and DC sizing, Grounding and Lightning study analysis.
  6. Good working knowledge of industry standards, safety standards, and existing electrical design codes including IEEE, ANSI, NFPA 70, ASTM, NESC, and Building Code.
  7. Demonstration of a high level of personal initiative and ability to interact with a diverse group of personnel. Proven interpersonal and written communication skills.
  8. Demonstration of effective time management and task prioritization and capability to independently project tasks and apply technical skills with minimal oversight.
  9. Good working knowledge of industry standards, safety standards, and existing electrical design codes.
  10. Proficient O365 Suites (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Word, etc.).
  11. Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
  12. Ability to physically navigate in and around an electrical substation.
  13. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
