The University of Rochester seeks an exceptional Senior Transplant Medical Services Director to partner with the Chief of the Transplant Institute in creating a world-class transplant program.

Job Overview

The Senior Transplant Medical Services Director will play a critical role in shaping the strategic and clinical direction of the program, ensuring high standards of practice, and fostering a positive team culture.

About the Role

  • Collaborate with the Chief to establish the overall strategy, clinical direction, and research focus for the Institute, promoting clinical and academic growth.
  • Participate as an active member of the Transplant Institute Leadership Team, contributing to key decisions and initiatives.
  • Work closely with Medical and Surgical directors to develop liver and kidney transplant program goals and objectives aligned with hospital and Institute priorities.
  • Ensure compliance with CMS and OPTN regulations, driving excellence in survival outcomes.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships among clinical disciplines involved in transplant care, promoting collaboration and teamwork.
  • This role is split between clinical activity (70%) and leadership activities (30%).
  • Oversee daily operations of the Transplant Institute, including hiring and supervising faculty and staff, facilitating meetings and conferences, and assessing clinical activity and resource allocation.
  • Collaborate with program leadership to ensure continued compliance with applicable laws and guidelines, including UNOS, CMS, NY State Department of Health, and Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals.
  • Assist the Transplant Institute Executive Director in developing and meeting budgetary goals.
  • Provide strategic direction for referring physician communication and relationship management, participating in transplant program outreach activities.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal relationships with colleagues, referring MDs, hospital personnel, and patients/families to achieve operational effectiveness and customer satisfaction.
  • Maintain current knowledge by attending meetings and conferences relevant to transplant program performance.

Requirements

  • M.D. Degree or equivalent.
  • New York State Medical License prior to start date.
  • Eligibility for Faculty Appointment at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry.
  • Meet all credentialing requirements.
  • Board Certification in Nephrology or Gastroenterology or Infectious Disease.
  • Post-offer Drug Screen and Health Assessment required.
  • Compliance with University and New York State health requirements.
  • Faculty appointment on the hospital staff.
  • Five years' clinical experience in medical transplantation specialty area (nephrology, hepatology, or infectious diseases).
  • Solid academic background with experience in research or history of service in transplant-related societies.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Effective interpersonal relationships.
  • Ability to accept and implement change.
  • Problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Positive collegial relations with colleagues, support staff, administrators, and patients.

Salary Range:$250,000 - $350,000 per annum
