About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Facilities Maintenance Specialist to join our team at the Housing Authority of New Orleans. This is a critical role that requires a strong background in maintenance and repair of residential properties.

Job Summary

The Facilities Maintenance Specialist will be responsible for performing routine maintenance, repairs, and renovations to ensure the upkeep of our properties. This includes tasks such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, HVAC maintenance, and painting.

Main Responsibilities
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on residential properties, including carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, HVAC maintenance, and painting.
  • Conduct thorough inspections of properties to identify areas that require attention and develop plans for necessary repairs.
  • Execute projects efficiently and effectively, ensuring minimal disruption to residents.
  • Collaborate with other departments to address resident complaints and concerns related to maintenance and repairs.
  • Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities, including work orders, inventory management, and purchasing.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of preventive maintenance programs to reduce the risk of costly repairs.
  • Participate in on-call rotations to respond to after-hours emergencies and provide support during peak periods.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you should have:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Four years of experience in general maintenance and repair, preferably in the following areas: carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HAVAC, and painting.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Proficiency in maintaining accurate records and managing inventory.
Work Environment

This position is based in New Orleans, LA, and requires regular travel to various locations throughout the city. The ideal candidate will have a valid driver's license and be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
