Stanford University is a world-renowned academic and research institution dedicated to advancing knowledge and improving lives. As a major Silicon Valley employer, the university seeks talented professionals committed to excellence and innovation.
The Anderson Collection at Stanford University is a premier art museum featuring an extensive collection of modern and contemporary American art. The museum offers free admission to all visitors and provides engaging exhibitions, educational programs, and interactive experiences for the Stanford community and beyond.
The Director of Programming and Engagement reports directly to the Museum Director and is responsible for developing and implementing public and academic programs that showcase the core collection, promote student learning and leadership, and inspire reflection, connection, and shared experiences among visitors.
This strategic and operational partner will work closely with the Academic and Public Programs team at the Cantor Arts Center and the central administration of the Office of the Vice President for the Arts to optimize processes, enhance systems, and ensure effective execution of program portfolios in alignment with museum goals.
The ideal candidate will have a strong arts and art history background, familiarity with the academic environment, and experience working cross-departmentally with faculty, artists, curators, and museum staff. They will also possess excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills, including public speaking.
In this role, you will:
- Develop and execute a dynamic public and academic program plan, including exhibition openings, artist talks, workshops, performances, community days, and student engagement activities.
- Work closely with curatorial leads to develop and produce educational and interpretive materials for temporary exhibitions and the permanent collection.
- Partner with faculty to use the collections and exhibitions as a resource in their teaching and research.
- Oversee the Visitor Experience and Volunteer Associate to support a welcoming and accessible museum environment.
- Promote activities and programs that attract new, under-served, and diverse audiences to the museum.

Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position.
