About the Role:
As a Music Therapy Fellow at UCLA Health, you will have the opportunity to work with infants, children, youth, adults, and families by providing music therapy activities for individuals and groups. Your role will involve assessing and meaningfully interacting with patients to provide developmentally appropriate music therapy.
Key Responsibilities:
- Creating and maintaining therapeutic environments for patients of all ages.
- Providing developmentally appropriate music as a primary tool in assessing and meeting psychosocial needs.
- Interpreting patient perception of diagnosis and treatment through music and other means of communication.
- Demonstrating, explaining, and providing stress reduction techniques to facilitate adaptive coping.
- Providing emotional support during identified stress points and utilizing music therapy techniques to facilitate adaptive coping.
- Using music therapy as a diagnostic and treatment tool.
- Advocating on behalf of patients to other hospital staff to provide the best environment for positive coping.
Requirements:
- Completed Bachelor's Degree in Music Therapy.
- Board certification in Music Therapy within six months of hire.
- Documented completion of at least 1000 hours of clinical internship under the supervision of a Board-Certified Music Therapist.
- Experience working with children, adolescents, and adults in a medical setting.
- Experience working with patients on palliative care with children/premature infants in a healthcare setting is highly desired.
