At the University of New Mexico - Hospitals, we are seeking a skilled Nurse to join our team as a Bilingual RN on our General Pediatrics Unit.
Earn an estimated salary of $70,000 - $90,000 per year.
About the RoleThe ideal candidate will be responsible for providing direct nursing care to assigned patients, working within the nursing process to deliver safe and effective care. As a clinical leader, they will provide guidance and support to other staff members and assume relief charge duties when designated.
The successful candidate will serve as a role model, promoting a positive work environment and high-quality patient care. They will ensure adherence to Hospital and Departmental Policies and Procedures, while working collaboratively with the healthcare team to implement individualized care plans.
Responsibilities- Patient Care: Deliver direct care to an assigned group of patients, incorporating age-specific considerations.
- Policies: Work within Hospitals, Nursing division, and departmental policies to ensure a safe and effective work environment.
- Care Plans: Collaborate with the healthcare team to implement and document individualized care plans, including discharge planning and patient/family teaching.
- Tests and Procedures: Assist with special tests and procedures, ensuring proper consent has been obtained.
- Participation: Participate in orientation and assume precepting and evaluation responsibilities of new personnel upon completion of preceptor training.
- Emergency Measures: Assist with or institute emergency measures for sudden, adverse developments in patients.
- Medical Records: Ensure that patient medical records contain necessary information.
- Inquiries: Answer telephones and triage calls as per departmental policy.
- Medication: Administer medication, including IV medication, via the Seven Rights; document and communicate clinical findings.
- Environment: Maintain a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients/families in accordance with Hospitals standards.
- Development: Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in-services, meetings, and workshops.
- Patient Safety 1: Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Patient Safety 2: Demonstrate a proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processes.
- Patient Safety 3: Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk.
- Patient Safety 4: Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors, and/or near misses in a timely manner.
- Patient Safety 5: Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don't understand or may not seem right.
To be considered for this position, applicants must meet the following qualifications:
- Education: Essential: Nationally Accredited Nursing Graduate. Non-essential: Bachelor's Degree, Nursing Education specialization.
- Experience: Essential: No minimum experience required. Non-essential: Bilingual English/Spanish.
- Credentials: Essential: CPR for Healthcare/BLS Prov or Prof Rescuers w/in 30 days, RN in NM or as allowed by reciprocal agreement by NM. Non-essential: Nationally Certified in area of specialty.
This role requires heavy physical exertion, with frequent lifting of objects weighing up to 50 pounds. The successful candidate must also work in environments where there is a risk of chemical and bio-hazardous materials exposure.
