Job Description

The Nationals are seeking a highly skilled Grounds Department Coordinator to join their team. This role is responsible for supporting the overall upkeep and maintenance practices for the playing field and surrounding landscape areas.

About the Role

This position will lead part-time employees as well as interns assigned to the Grounds Department, assisting in recruiting, training, and leading seasonal part-time employees. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate records of pesticide and fertilizer applications, and will assist with day-to-day activities required to maintain a field at a professional level.

Key Responsibilities
  • Field Preparation: Assist in preparing the field for all baseball-related activities, including MLB games, concerts, corporate sponsorship events, community relations outreach programs, and other non-baseball scheduled events.
  • Maintenance and Equipment Management: Responsible for maintaining all equipment to extend its useful life and appearance, and ensuring that all tools and machines are used safely.
  • Leadership and Communication: Lead all staff, effectively communicate with front office employees, coaches, and players, and may be trusted to perform all field activities in the absence of the Director of Field Operations or Field Manager.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience: Associate or Bachelor's Degree in Turf Management, Plant Science, Soil Science, or Agronomy, with a minimum of 1 year of experience in managing sports turf at a professional (or collegiate) sports venue or successful completion of a sports field management internship.
  • Certifications and Memberships: Active member of Sports Field Management Association, and pursuit of obtaining Certified Sports Field Manager certification.
  • Skills and Abilities: General knowledge of agronomy and regional turfgrass management practices, including pest, disease, and weed management; ability to safely operate various equipment, such as mowers, tractors, and scissor lifts; and exceptional attention to detail.
