About This Position
We're looking for a Prototype Purchasing Business Development Manager to work independently carrying out a wide range of complex duties with purchasing and technical teams. The successful candidate will propose and influence new business process designs or process design changes for conformance to existing standards and strategies. They will lead PSP procurement functions, including leading tool/part cost negotiation/evaluation, cost reduction research, assigned parts/child parts procurement, supplier cost/quality/delivery management, and parts procurement delivery/administration. Additionally, they will act as the lead liaison to suppliers and project design teams.
The responsibilities include proposing business processes and confirming changes for enhancement and conformance to PSP prototype purchasing business needs. The candidate will work closely with system development teams to specify, negotiate, and confirm system changes. They will identify key stakeholders and include them in development and confirmation.
The manager will issue Purchase Orders (POs) for all projects unassisted. They will authorize appropriate supplier selection for existing & new parts, required parts/lead times per drawing issue schedule/delivery dates, and specifications/procurement needs are met. The candidate will initiate collaborative efforts with suppliers to obtain Request for Quotes (RFQs) to establish target costs prior to project builds, analysing supplier quotes and negotiating costs for all projects. They will coordinate parts procurement administration, including tracking open parts requests/orders/changes, generating Open Order Report.
This role requires advanced knowledge of parts/child parts in assigned area of specialty, drawing specifications/release timing, and supplier prototype tooling methods to procure prototype parts/child parts for development/testing activities. The candidate will evaluate tools/prototype parts cost/quality and manage lead time to ensure costs within budget, delivery, quality, quantity, and build schedule/testing deadlines.
The selected candidate will create strategies with suppliers and internal design teams for part/assembly procurement, conduct pre-project build meetings to observe/review supplier-tooling methods for quality and cost assessments, monitor supplier quality/delivery, and relay changes in quantity, quality standards, and/or deadlines. They will address quality issues and recommend countermeasures, negotiate with suppliers to ensure quality standards are met, and coordinate shipment/delivery with minimal supervision.
Requirements
For this position, we require a Bachelor's Degree or related equivalent experience. A minimum of 8 years' experience, preferably in Power Sports or Automotive Prototype Procurement, is necessary. Strong understanding of material costs, labor rates, and prototype manufacturing methods is also required. Advanced SAP knowledge and experience in system implementation from a business perspective are essential. Solid ability to learn, understand, and apply new technologies, investigative, judgment, decision-making, and problem-solving skills, customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills, diplomacy, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills, analytical, organizational, multi-tasking, and detail-oriented skills are also necessary. Ability to read and interpret drawings, competent working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and possession of a high level of confidentiality are required.
Additional Position Factors
Up to 5% travel may be required, primarily at a desk with moderate keyboarding. Limited kneeling, standing, reaching, squatting, bending, pushing, and lifting. Risks found in a typical office setting, possible exposure to explosives/flammables, pressurized equipment, toxic chemicals, and moving parts. Overtime expected based on project demands/responsibilities.
