At Legal Aid Bureau, we are committed to ensuring equal access to justice for all Marylanders. We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Tenant Advocacy Specialist to join our team in the Upper Eastern Shore office, located in Easton, MD.

About the Role

The Tenant Advocacy Specialist will play a vital role in our Tenants' Right to Counsel Project (TRCP), which aims to provide legal representation for low-income tenants facing eviction or forced displacement. As a member of our team, you will assist attorneys in all aspects of representation in eviction cases, including Failure to Pay Rent, Tenant Holding Over, and Breach of Lease. You will also participate in client intake, community outreach initiatives, and continue professional development through trainings and other programs sponsored by Legal Aid Bureau.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist attorneys in representing clients in eviction cases, including conducting research, preparing documents, and attending court hearings.
  • Participate in client intake, including interviewing clients, gathering information, and creating case files.
  • Engage in community outreach initiatives to raise awareness about tenant rights and provide education on available resources.
  • Continuously develop skills and knowledge through training and professional development opportunities.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you must have:

  • A strong understanding of housing law and eviction procedures.
  • Excellent communication, research, and critical thinking skills.
  • The ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet regular deadlines.
  • Knowledge of Westlaw Edge or other legal research software is a plus.
  • Prior experience working with low-income communities and/or providing nonprofit legal services is a plus.
Benefits

We offer a competitive salary range of $55,000 - $90,000 per year, based on experience. In addition, you will receive a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, vision, life insurance, a 401(k)-retirement plan, two weeks paid time off, sick leave, 14 annual paid holidays, and a hybrid work arrangement.
