Pediatric Nurse Specialist Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Pediatric Nurse Specialist to join our team at Medstar. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in pediatric nursing and be able to provide high-quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide professional nursing care to pediatric patients following established standards and practices.
  • Administer prescribed medications, vaccines, treatments, and procedures in accordance with nursing standards.
  • Prepare equipment and aid physicians during treatment, examination, and testing of patients.
  • Observe, record, and report patient's condition and reaction to drugs and treatments to physicians.
  • Greets patients and prepares them for physician examination.
  • Performs patient telephone triage, assesses needs, and coordinates needs with medical staff.
  • Triage walk-in patients and provides them with guidance, determining the most appropriate course of action for the patient to take.
  • Dispense telephone advice and recommendations from the provider as requested.
  • Assist in supervising other clinical staff in absence of Nurse Clinician II.
  • Assist in education of clinical and administrative staff to elevate care and service offered by the department.
Requirements:
  • Associate's degree in Nursing from an accredited School of Nursing.
  • 1-2 years of professional nursing experience, including 1 year of telephone triage and pediatric experience.
  • Previous use of electronic medical records required.
  • RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure.
  • CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross.
