Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and resourceful Recreation Specialist to join our team at Institute for Community Living. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing a calendar of volunteer and social activities, providing transportation and accompaniment to community events, and supporting consumers in developing and achieving their social, recreational, and life skills goals.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Develop and implement a calendar of volunteer and social activities
  • Provide transportation and accompaniment to community events
  • Support consumers in developing and achieving their social, recreational, and life skills goals
  • Document and record events on the daily data sheet
  • Assist consumers in developing and supporting social activities and relationships
  • Record observations and actions
  • Participate in staff development activities and programs
  • Work one-on-one with consumers in their homes and communities to address a variety of life skills
  • Identify skills and competencies to be developed and devise plans to achieve those skills and competencies
  • Assist consumers in identifying social, recreational, and other community resources and devise plans to access those resources
  • Measure the likelihood of social isolation and develop plans to build social and communal relationships
  • Negotiate schedules and daily activities
  • Regularly maintain and submit service notes with documentation of hours worked and services provided
  • Follow agreed-upon action plans for activities with consumers, including behavior plans
  • Employ knowledge of emergency procedures as outlined by ICL
  • Enhance and promote social interaction and community participation
  • Present as a positive role model
  • Submit to and review reports and problems with the Residence Manager
  • Other duties as assigned

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Resourceful within the community/able to network
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Internet Explorer

Education and Experience:

Minimum Education Requirements:

  • High School diploma or GED required
  • Associate's degree preferred

Certifications:

  • Acquires and maintains current first aid, SCIP-R, and CPR certification
  • Valid New York State Driver's License and ability to drive and driving record acceptable for agency insurance coverage required
