About This Opportunity

We are seeking a skilled Nursing Station Technician/Monitor Tech to join our team at St. John's Hospital in Maplewood, MN. This is a 56-hour per two weeks position on the Night shift, with every other weekend and eligibility for benefits such as PTO, dental/medical insurance, and more.

About the Role

As a Nursing Station Technician/Monitor Tech, you will work under the direction of nursing personnel to provide patient care while functioning as a nursing assistant and health unit coordinator. Your duties may include:

  • Performing delegated nursing functions to assigned patients, including personal care, ambulation, exercise, nutrition, specimen collection, and vital signs.
  • Assisting patients with personal cares, ensuring patient privacy and safety, and recognizing patient/family needs for comfort.
  • Providing appropriate comforting measures, responding to patient call lights, and recognizing when different approaches are needed due to age or cultural background.
  • Utilizing equipment properly, performing special procedures as defined by patient care unit practice guidelines, and observing patients and reporting any changes in status to appropriate staff.
  • Communicating effectively with all members of the health care team, maintaining patient confidentiality, and providing updates and reports to maintain continuity of care.
  • Maintaining the medical record, assuring that each medical record is complete, in appropriate order, and current, and utilizing correct medical terminology and proper abbreviations and symbols.
  • Scheduling patient tests and procedures, considering patient needs and changing condition to schedule tests and procedures accordingly, and working with other members of the health care team to prioritize tests and procedures when multiple requests are requested.
  • Maintaining unit communication systems and central desk area, recording scheduled tests and procedures on kardexs and communication boards, and handling specimens and patient equipment according to proper infection control practices.
  • Receiving all patients, family members, visitors, and other members of the health team, noticing and greeting people as they approach the desk, and responding to everyone in a welcoming and positive manner.
  • Maintaining unit stock/supplies/equipment, monitoring and coordinating ordering and stocking of supplies, forms, and equipment per designated standards on a routine basis, and notifying appropriate department per procedure for equipment requiring maintenance and following through on status of equipment as necessary.
  • Participating in staff development, participating in orientation of new staff on the patient care unit, and demonstrating and sharing knowledge of priority-based job responsibilities in an organized manner with the new staff.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers) certification.
  • Six months of recent direct care experience in a long-term, home care, or acute care setting.
  • Current enrollment in an LPN, RN, or Nurse Practitioner program, and completion of one semester of clinical rotation within the program.
  • Current certification on the MN Nursing Assistant Registry upon hire.
Preferred Qualifications

We prefer candidates with:

  • Telemetry reading experience.
  • 1 year experience of transcription/unit coordinator experience.
