Job Summary:

The City and County of San Francisco is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Animal Care Attendant to join our team at the San Francisco Department of Animal Care & Control.

About the Role:

Under the direct supervision of the Behavioral and Training Assistant Supervisor, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality care and attention to dogs at our shelter.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Behavioral and Training Assistant Supervisor in ensuring the shelter provides the highest quality care for dogs.
  • Perform behavior evaluations on dogs to determine their suitability for adoption.
  • Provide enrichment activities to reduce stress and implement behavior modification plans.
  • Lead play groups with other staff members on a weekly basis.
  • Teach underage puppy classes to foster parent volunteers.
  • Teach volunteer training classes.
  • Counsel adopters before or after adoption, as needed.
  • Perform general housekeeping duties, such as laundry and dishwashing.
  • Assist staff and volunteers with promoting active participation by dog volunteers.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues, management, and the public.
  • Assist with special shelter projects and events.

Requirements:

  • 6 months of hands-on experience in animal care, or 30 semester units of coursework in animal husbandry or a related field.
  • Valid California Class C Driver's License.

Working Conditions:

The successful candidate will work in a fast-paced office environment with prolonged exposure to high noise levels and unpleasant odors.
