Job Title: Traffic Sign Technician

The City of Hobbs, NM is seeking a highly skilled Traffic Sign Technician to join our team. As a key member of our public works department, you will be responsible for installing and maintaining traffic signs, crosswalks, and other traffic control markings throughout the city.

About the Job

This is a full-time position that requires a strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will have a background in electrical work, experience with painting equipment, and a proven track record of ensuring high-quality workmanship.

Key Responsibilities
  • Install and maintain traffic signs, crosswalks, and other traffic control markings in accordance with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD)
  • Fabricate and replace street name signs, stop signs, and other signs as needed
  • Operate and maintain painting equipment to ensure efficient and effective work processes
  • Maintain accurate records of daily work activities, including maintenance of traffic control devices
  • Assist with inventory management and preparation of equipment, material, and supply orders
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; electrical background preferred
  • Valid driver's license and ability to operate company vehicle
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently and occasionally lift and/or move heavy objects up to 100 pounds or more
  • Work well in a team environment and communicate effectively with colleagues and supervisors

Certifications and Training
  • International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) Level II certification: required for advanced training

Working Conditions

Estimated Salary: $65,000 - $75,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
