This opportunity is in the Ceded Reinsurance Department, where our mission is to protect the company's surplus through reinsurance placement and provide accurate reporting to reinsurers, brokers, and internal employees. We encourage innovation and creativity while ensuring security and adhering to superior client service principles.
In this role as Vice President, Ceded Reinsurance, you'll oversee all aspects of ceded reinsurance placement and analysis in concert with the Treaty Committee. You'll ensure timely settlements with reinsurance partners and supervise the Ceded Reinsurance leadership team, performing the role of department head. By executing the Ceded Reinsurance strategy and objectives set by the Treaty Committee, you'll play a critical role in managing risks and achieving broader goals.
Your primary responsibilities will include actively seeking reinsurance solutions to meet business needs and enterprise risk objectives. You'll develop and maintain positive working relationships with reinsurance partners and represent the organization accordingly. Additionally, you'll monitor Ceded Reinsurance transactions and provide necessary support to other departments on related issues. You'll also educate others on reinsurance concepts when required.
As head of the Ceded Reinsurance department, you'll oversee performance management of all department team members. You'll provide effective coaching and mentorship, opportunities for growth and development, and ensure each individual reaches their full potential.
We're looking for a highly accountable leader with 10 or more years of experience successfully placing reinsurance. Preferably, you have extensive experience in commercial casualty insurance and various disciplines including underwriting, claims, finance, and accounting. A thorough knowledge of reinsurance and established relationships with the reinsurance brokerage community are essential. Strong written and oral communication skills are also required.
This position requires light travel consisting of two international trips per year and occasional visits to the home office in Saint Louis, MO. While remote work is available, we prefer candidates who can work a hybrid schedule from our headquarters or regional offices located across the US. Travel requirements may vary depending on location.
A Bachelor's degree in Insurance, Accounting, Finance, or Actuarial Science or similar is preferred. Key qualifications include direct reinsurance placement experience, management expertise, and thorough knowledge of insurance company operations. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, and Excel, is also essential.
Safety National offers an attractive total rewards package, which includes competitive salary, incentive award bonuses, an annual holiday bonus, and profit-sharing contributions. The estimated salary range for this position is $169,000 to $270,000, considering the candidate's unique combination of knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience.
