Job Summary:

The Shelter Advocate is a part-time, as-needed position that provides supervision of the shelter facility during various shifts. This role serves as the primary point of contact for the shelter during assigned hours.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise the shelter facility during assigned shifts
  • Respond to family needs and provide support as needed
  • Answer phone calls and direct callers to relevant community resources
  • Coordinate with volunteers, including hospitality volunteers and trainers/facilitators
  • Manage family needs and requests for supplies, updating staff as necessary
  • Crisis management and exceptional customer service
  • Accept donations and perform light housekeeping duties
  • Adhere to agency policies, procedures, and professional code of ethics

Requirements:

  • High school degree or equivalent, Bachelor's degree preferred
  • One year of social services experience, either professional or volunteer
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to handle confidential information
  • Basic computer skills and knowledge of community resources
  • Ability to build rapport with families, staff, and volunteers
  • Willingness to work according to the principles of Trauma-Informed Care

Work Environment:

Office setting, requiring ability to sit/stand for 8 hours, with walking, bending, and light lifting up to 25 pounds.

Compensation:

$17.50 per hour. Safe Haven is an equal opportunity employer.
