Shelter Advocate

Job Summary:
The Shelter Advocate is a part-time, as-needed position that provides supervision of the shelter facility during various shifts. This role serves as the primary point of contact for the shelter during assigned hours.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise the shelter facility during assigned shifts
- Respond to family needs and provide support as needed
- Answer phone calls and direct callers to relevant community resources
- Coordinate with volunteers, including hospitality volunteers and trainers/facilitators
- Manage family needs and requests for supplies, updating staff as necessary
- Crisis management and exceptional customer service
- Accept donations and perform light housekeeping duties
- Adhere to agency policies, procedures, and professional code of ethics
Requirements:
- High school degree or equivalent, Bachelor's degree preferred
- One year of social services experience, either professional or volunteer
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Ability to handle confidential information
- Basic computer skills and knowledge of community resources
- Ability to build rapport with families, staff, and volunteers
- Willingness to work according to the principles of Trauma-Informed Care
Work Environment:
Office setting, requiring ability to sit/stand for 8 hours, with walking, bending, and light lifting up to 25 pounds.
Compensation:
