Job Summary

This is a permanent full-time position that will require occasional long work shifts, especially during field data collection efforts and mitigation project implementation.

Job Duties

This position requires project coordination, field and laboratory data collection, management, and analysis to help achieve the goals and objectives of the Libby Darn Mitigation Project.

The technician assists with field and laboratory data collection to monitor the trend and status of fish species in the Kootenai Watershed, conduct applied research to evaluate the impacts of Libby Dam operations on aquatic organisms, and evaluate the efficacy of measures intended to mitigate the impacts of dam operations.

This work includes a diverse set of working conditions and requires a broad knowledge of sampling gears to monitor habitat conditions, water quality, capture fish and lower trophic organisms that support fish populations inhabiting waters within the Kootenai Watershed.

The technician also assists regional staff to implement research and mitigation measures including fish removal projects and habitat restoration efforts to offset impacts caused by the construction and operation of Libby Dam.

Requirements

The knowledge, skills, and abilities of this position are normally attained through combination of education and experience equivalent to:

  • A bachelor's degree in fish biology, fish and wildlife management, ecology, biology.
  • One year of job-related experience.
