Highway Maintenance Technician

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Highway Maintenance Landscape Technician to join our team at the State of Rhode Island. As a key member of our department, you will be responsible for performing technical and skilled work relating to a landscape maintenance program in the statewide highway system.
Key Responsibilities- Perform maintenance of equipment, apply general use pesticides, and utilize plants to beautify roadways and roadsides.
- Supervise and review the work of subordinates assigned to assist in a statewide roadside landscape maintenance program.
- Inspect trees, shrubs, and grass planting and other landscape work done by private vendors to ensure compliance with specifications.
- Make field investigations to detect roadside trees that should be removed or trimmed.
- Submit reports on the progress of landscape maintenance projects.
- Graduation from a senior high school.
- Considerable employment in public agency or private industry involving arboriculture or landscape maintenance at a technical level.
- Valid Rhode Island Commercial Driver's License (CDL), Class B with airbrake endorsement.
- Compliance with USDOT Federal Regulations and State of Rhode Island's Drug & Alcohol Testing Program Policy & Procedures.
- Physical qualification to perform assigned duties as evidenced by a physician's certificate.
- Experience with tree trimming and felling.
- Experience with operation of heavy equipment, landscaping, and herbicide application.
