About the Police Cadet Program:
The City of El Segundo is seeking a part-time Police Cadet to support the Police Department in various clerical and technical tasks. As a non-sworn police auxiliary personnel, the successful candidate will gain exposure to police work and develop an understanding of the department's procedures and services.
The Police Cadet position is ideal for individuals considering a career in law enforcement and are currently enrolled in a minimum of 12 college semester units. The successful candidate will work an average of 19 hours per week and be required to maintain a grade "C" average or higher.
Responsibilities:
- Perform various clerical tasks, including copying, shredding, and filing documents.
- Receive, sort, and distribute incoming and outgoing mail.
- Interact with the public and provide factual information about Department procedures or services.
- Prepare routine reports and forms.
- Order supplies as directed.
- Direct traffic and provide related assistance at traffic or accident scenes.
- Identify violations of parking laws and issue citations.
- Tag abandoned vehicles for impound.
- Assist staff in performing day-to-day tasks.
- Participate in and provide support to special projects and events.
- Clean and/or wash police vehicles.
- Perform minor maintenance at the police station, including changing light bulbs, emptying trash, etc.
Requirements:
- Valid California Class C Driver License.
- Currently enrolled in a minimum of 12 college semester units.
- Maintain a grade "C" average or higher.
Working Conditions:
The Police Cadet will work in a field setting under a full range of environmental conditions and/or in a traditional office setting. The position may require irregular work assignments, work on holidays/evenings, and occasional exposure to weather conditions.
