Job Summary

The Residential Unit Specialist will be responsible for implementing approved and scheduled active treatment, and skill acquisition programs for residents. This includes providing resident supervision and training at worksites, reporting progress of the residents' goals and objectives to supervisor, and suggesting improvements as appropriate. The successful candidate will also be responsible for carrying out appropriate recreation and leisure activities for residents at home, through center wide activities, community outings, and accurately documenting resident information following each activity as required. Additionally, the Residential Unit Specialist will participate in meetings and discussions concerning residents' needs, goals, objectives, and offer suggestions as needed. The position requires the ability to transport and/or escort residents to and from on-campus activities, community outings, appointments, and emergency visits to the hospital, and provide care for residents during hospital visits until they are admitted. The Residential Unit Specialist will also be responsible for performing mealtime procedures strictly following each resident's prescribed diet and assuring appropriate use of prescribed adaptive equipment by assisting the residents. Furthermore, the successful candidate will ensure the residents' personal appearance is neat and clean with clothes that are well-fitted, accurately complete residents' Personal Possession Inventory, and report any needs, concerns, and/or repairs to supervisor accordingly. The Residential Unit Specialist will also utilize appropriate first aid procedures and notify appropriate management, accurately complete Incident Reports, and document illnesses and injuries in the Shift Communication Book within one (1) hour of occurrence. The position requires the ability to work beyond the normal work schedule to maintain minimum coverage levels and meet the needs of the Agency. The successful candidate will also be responsible for attending work-related training and staff meetings as scheduled, maintaining certification in Prevention and Safety Strategies, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and Direct Care In-Service, and completing annual health screening. The Residential Unit Specialist will also perform other related duties as required.

Responsibilities

Implement approved and scheduled active treatment, and skill acquisition programs for residents

Provide resident supervision and training at worksites

Report progress of the residents' goals and objectives to supervisor and suggest improvements as appropriate

Carry out appropriate recreation and leisure activities for residents at home, through center wide activities, community outings

Requirements

Valid Florida Driver's License

Ability to lift up to 40 pounds

Knowledge of the methods of instructing and providing care to others

Ability to understand and apply the methods and practices used in medical, psychiatric, nursing or childcare or in working with developmentally disabled persons

Ability to read, pay attention to details, follow verbal and written instructions, and carry out instructions for implementing prescribed treatment plans including behavior modification activities

Ability to instruct others in basic self-care skills, instruct others in recreational activities, provide instruction and personal guidance and care to residents, communicate effectively verbally and in writing, and establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
