Telecommunications Technician

VTG is seeking a Telecommunications Technician 3/ Lead Technician/Supervisor supporting Navy NGEN located in the National Capital Region. This role takes the lead, manages, or supports in the survey and/or installation of Inside Plant (ISP) structured cabling systems (fiber optic and copper), Outside Plant (OSP) cabling and pathways, new electrical circuits from existing power panels to new racks/cabinets, installation of government furnished equipment (cabinets, UPSs, etc.) for the National Capital Region (DC, VA, and MD).
Job Responsibilities:- Ensure Grounding and Bonding Compliance: Guarantees that grounding and bonding are compliant with applicable standards and codes.
- Fire Stopping Procedures: Ensures fire stopping procedures are accurately followed.
- Testing and Troubleshooting: Oversees or assists in testing and troubleshooting of structured cabling systems, whether ISP or OSP cabling systems.
- OSHA and Safety Requirements: Familiar with OSHA and safety requirements in surveying/accessing OSP pathways (Manholes, handholes, etc.) and proper use of OSP equipment (blowers, gas detectors, etc.) to access confined spaces.
- Outside Plant Operations: Uses knowledge of and experience with Outside Plant operations to ensure rodding, roping, and fiber splicing are properly performed.
- Troubleshooting Communications Systems: Ability and experience in troubleshooting entire communications systems to determine if problems are related to hardware or cabling.
- Hardware Testing and Evaluation: Tests and evaluates newly installed or existing hardware to determine efficiency, reliability, and compatibility.
- Cabling Labeling: Experienced with properly labeling all new cabling installed with a contract-required labeling scheme.
- Material Ordering and Bill of Materials: Ability to assist in ordering materials and developing a bill of materials required for each work ticket.
- Floor Plans and Wiring Schematics: Ability to read and understand floor plans showing outlets, rack elevations, wiring schematics, and experience providing red lines at the end of each task.
- Equipment Selection: Utilizes technical manuals and brochures to determine equipment that meets establishment requirements.
- Reports and Submissions: Compiles, reviews, and/or submits other reports as required to support this contract, such as site reports or project status reports, as required by management.
- Installation Management: Manages installations using VTG technicians, subcontractors, or a combination of both in daily productivity and completing daily work reports.
- Contract Deliverables: Assist team on all contract deliverables (test results, cable run list, materials, Redlines, final As-builds, etc.).
- Education and Experience: HS plus five years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience to include an AS plus three years of related experience or BS plus two years in a related field.
- DoD SECRET Clearance: DoD SECRET active clearance required.
- Common Access Card (CAC) Badge: Must be able to obtain a Common Access Card (CAC) badge.
- Navy Marine Corp Infrastructure (NMCI): Familiarity and experience with Navy Marine Corp Infrastructure (NMCI) is a plus.
- Valid Driver's License: Must have a valid driver's license with a clean driving record to travel within a 100-mile radius of Washington, DC.
- Hands-on Experience: Minimum of 5 years or more of hands-on experience and supervision of installation crews for the following:
- Copper Cat6, Multimode, and Single mode fiber cable pulling.
- Installation of new electrical circuits and breakers from existing power panels to new racks/cabinets.
- Backbone Copper and fiber cable pulling.
- Cable conveyances installation: Installing cable conveyances such as J-hooks, cable tray, ladder rack.
- Telecommunications room build out: Build out of Telecommunications rooms with racks, cabinets, grounding, wall fields, overhead ladder rack, and drop-offs, etc.
- Fiber connector termination: Termination of SC, ST, LC fiber connectors for MM and SM fiber at both patch panels/modules and work area outlets.
- Copper jack termination: Termination of RJ45 copper jacks at both patch panel and work area outlets.
Pay Range: VTG's estimated starting pay range is $35-$43 per hour, which is a general guideline for the geographic location. When extending an offer, VTG also considers work experience, education, skill level, market considerations, and may possibly include contractual requirements that may cause an offer to fall outside of this range.
