Democracy Program Internship

The Brennan Center for Justice at NYU School of Law is a non-partisan law and policy institute that seeks to enhance the systems of democracy and justice in the United States.

We strive to hold our political institutions and laws accountable to the core American ideals of democracy and equal justice for all.

We are a think tank, an advocacy group, and a cutting-edge communications hub. We start with rigorous research, craft innovative policies, and fight for them – in Congress and the states, in the courts, and in public opinion.

We are seeking interns to provide research, administrative, and clerical support to staff in our New York office in our Democracy program.

This internship is in-person at our Washington DC office.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with general research, administrative, and clerical work for the Brennan Center, including filing, answering phones, coordinating meetings, and drafting routine correspondence.
  • Attend and observe substantive meetings, events, and conversations on program work.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Support litigation efforts.
  • Contribute to the research for, and rollout of, reports.
  • Aid the program's advocacy efforts in Voting, Elections, and Government, Judiciary, Federal Affairs, Redistricting, and other related projects.

Requirements:

  • Be detail-oriented, energetic, punctual, and highly organized.
  • Hold excellent research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Show passion for our issues.
  • Have experience with Windows, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word.
  • Possess database experience, which is very helpful.

Benefits:

  • $17.50 per hour.
  • Monday – Friday (9:00am – 5:00pm EST).
