Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Forensic Psychiatrist to join our team at Broughton Hospital, a state psychiatric hospital serving the Western Region of North Carolina. As a Forensic Psychiatrist, you will play a critical role in providing quality patient care, including competency restoration treatment, to patients with complex mental health needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct initial psychiatric assessments and diagnoses of patients upon admission, developing comprehensive treatment plans to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
  • Lead and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to provide integrated, comprehensive patient care, including competency restoration treatment.
  • Provide competency re-evaluations to determine an individual's capacity to proceed to trial or a determination of non-restorability.
  • Manage the day-to-day responsibilities of an inpatient unit, including documentation of patient progress in medical records and court papers, as well as education of patients/families and provision of educational groups for patients.
  • Under the direction of the hospital clinical director, plan and organize clinical care and clinical staff functions, ensuring that appropriate care is provided and that the hospital mission, values, and goals are transmitted to clinical staff.
Requirements
  • Licensed to practice medicine in the State of North Carolina.
  • Graduation from an accredited medical school and completion of psychiatry residency (or anticipated completion before job commencement).
  • Professional knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients, as credentialed by the Medical Staff.
  • Board Certification in Psychiatry.
