At Central Connecticut Coast YMCA, we are seeking a dedicated and passionate Senior Camp Counselor to join our team. This role is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to make a positive impact on the lives of children and youth.

About the Role

The Senior Camp Counselor will provide direct supervision to a group of children in a seasonal day camp setting and maintain a supportive, positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals while promoting and maintaining safe conditions in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate Caring Leadership: Demonstrate the values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility in relationships with colleagues, members, volunteers, vendors, and guests.
  • Create Nurturing Relationships: Create positive, nurturing relationships with children, while building cooperative relationships with parents/caregivers.
  • Promote Youth Development: Promote and support the potential of all youth in programs and facilitate peer-to-peer connections as part of the overall camp experience.
  • Assist in Program Planning: Assist in planning and implementing camp activities.
  • Implement Programs: Implement camp programs in accordance with YMCA guidelines, having prepared lesson plans accordingly, and supports campers in achieving their goals.
  • Maintain Safety and Cleanliness: Ensure that campers, program areas, and equipment are kept clean and safe.
  • Emergency Response: Maintain physical presence, remain alert at all times while on duty, maintains constant visual attention to campers, and remains aware of camp surroundings. Knows and reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies, procedures, completes related reports as required.
Requirements
  • Age Requirement: Must be at least 18 years old (or entering senior year of high school in the fall).
  • Experience: One or more years of experience working with youth and/or teens, preferably in licensed day camp or child care setting.
  • Teaching and Assisting: Demonstrated ability to teach and assist in teaching skills and activities.
  • Role Model: Good role model, with integrity and adaptability.
  • Communication Skills: Effective communication skills necessary to inform, counsel, motivate, and support campers.
  • Safety-Conscious: Must be observant, safety-conscious, and able to react calmly and quickly in an emergency.

This position offers a competitive salary range of $45,000 - $55,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications. We also offer a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, and vision insurance, as well as paid time off and professional development opportunities.

Estimated Salary: $50,500
