PACS Administrator Job Summary

The PACS Administrator will be responsible for the management and maintenance of the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) at Delta Health. This role involves ensuring the storage, retrieval, and distribution of medical images across the healthcare facility. The administrator will work closely with radiologists, clinicians, and IT staff to provide technical support, troubleshoot issues, and implement system upgrades. Additionally, the administrator will develop and enforce policies and procedures to maintain data security, system integrity, and compliance with healthcare regulations. The role requires a deep understanding of interface protocols like HL7 and DICOM, as well as experience with network configuration, data encryption, and firewall management. The PACS Administrator will be instrumental in leading projects related to system installations, performance tuning, and disaster recovery planning, all while maintaining detailed documentation and fostering positive vendor relationships.

Key Responsibilities

Manages the day-to-day operations of the Image Archive Communication Systems (PACS)
Creates log in pathways for new reading physicians and new radiology employees
Provides technical assistance and training to radiologists, physicians, and other healthcare professionals
Identifies and resolves hardware, software, and network problems associated with PACS
Develops and implements policies and procedures for monitoring system, backup and data security
Responds to emergent needs regarding the PACS, such as loss of PACS access
Runs daily PACS logs and file
Responds to all PACS updates, as warranted
Leads activities related to the installation and testing of new systems and applications
Maintains system as a liaison between the PACS and Delta Health
Regularly updates PACS software to the latest versions, ensuring compatibility and security
Oversees the hospital use of the PACS and reports any issues with PACS misuse to the department Director
Works with the PACS admin to maintain all system updates
Proficiency in HL7, DICOM, and other relevant interface protocols to facilitate communication between different systems
Oversees the maintenance and replacement of PACS hardware components, including servers, storage devices, and workstations
Performs daily PACS maintenance as needed
Will be responsible for special projects or any other additional duties as assigned by the director
Active participant in project implementations and hardware deployments
Monitors Help Desk System for ongoing support requests and provides support to end users
Follows up and provides status update of problems to include updating users via help desk or email
Participates in on information systems after hours

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Healthcare, Radiology, or related field preferred
Must be a Registered Radiologic Technologist (ARRT), PACS Administrators Registry and Certification Association (PARCA) or Certified Imaging Informatics Professional (CIIP) upon hire or within one year of date of hire or transfer into position
Minimum of two (2) year of experience in PACS Administration preferred
Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a clinical role with knowledge of medical imaging, anatomy, physiology and terminology
