Technical Support Specialist for GSAPP

Columbia University is seeking a skilled Technical Support Specialist to join its team at the Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation (GSAPP).

About the Role

This full-time position provides IT support to GSAPP students, working closely with the Director of Information Technology. As a member of the Systems Coordinator team, you will be responsible for addressing student support requests, maintaining student workstations, and providing technical support to faculty and administration.

Key Responsibilities
  • Technical Support (60%): Provide assistance to GSAPP students through a help desk ticketing system, addressing their technical issues and concerns. Ensure timely resolutions and thorough documentation of all steps related to technical solutions.
  • Ongoing Projects (10%): Assist with model workstation builds, image deployment processes, lab setup, and studio break down each semester. Implement client/server configuration software suites and scripting to facilitate security, deployment, printing, and rendering systems.
  • AV Team Support (10%): Install, maintain, and support classroom infrastructure, respond to service/repair requests, and assist with audio-visual services such as streaming, recording, publication, and archiving of event videos.
  • Additional Duties (10%): Perform related tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Information Technology.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent required, up to 2 years' related experience preferred.
  • Strong desktop support and troubleshooting skills, comfortable working with various software, hardware, and networking issues.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, service-oriented attitude essential.
  • Experience with computer image deployment and software packaging highly desirable.
  • Occasional weekend and evening work, flexibility in hours worked required.
Compensation and Benefits

The estimated salary range for this role is $62,400 - $66,000 per year, depending on qualifications and experience. Columbia University offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.
