Job Description

As a Licensed Practical Nurse with the NYS Office for People With Developmental Disabilities, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality care to individuals with developmental disabilities. Your primary responsibility will be to monitor the conditions of the individuals in your assigned worksite, detecting any changes in condition or responses to medication or therapy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor the conditions of individuals in your assigned worksite and report any changes to a physician or registered nurse.
  • Identify symptoms of illnesses and changes in conditions manifested by individuals and report them to a physician or registered nurse.
  • Administer medications, including injectable, j-tube, and g-tube medications, as prescribed by a physician.
  • Implement and monitor g-tube and j-tube feedings, including changing g-tubes as necessary.
  • Assist individuals with collecting urine, stool, and other specimens for analysis.
  • Prepare and maintain charts and other records of treatments administered.
  • Perform inventory of medical supplies and medications to determine the need for ordering new supplies or medications.

Requirements:

  • A license and current registration to practice as a practical nurse in New York State.
  • A limited permit to practice as a practical nurse in New York State, with the requirement to obtain a license within one year of the date the limited permit was issued.
  • An application on file for a limited permit to practice as a practical nurse in New York State, with the requirement to be approved immediately following graduation from an approved school of practical nursing in New York State.
