About the role

As a senior backend engineer, you'll play a crucial role in shaping the system architecture behind some of the startup's most important products. You'll lead the design and implementation of complex backend systems using TypeScript/Node, like high-availability ingestion pipelines and A/B testing platforms, directly influencing the stability and scalability of their core infrastructure. Beyond coding, you'll mentor junior engineers, set best practices, and solve challenging technical problems. This high-impact role means your work will be central to the startup's product success and technical growth.

Key responsibilities

  • Design and build an analytics ingestion pipeline: Develop a reliable pipeline using Kafka, ClickHouse, and Redis, ensuring >99.99% uptime for real-time data processing.
  • Build an A/B testing platform: Create an A/B testing framework with Cloudflare Workers, enabling data-driven user experience optimization.
  • Enhance the CI/CD platform: Improve build stability and automate deployment pipelines for seamless feature integration.
  • Deploy a multi-tenant app: Manage deployment on Cloudflare with automatic revalidation for fresh, up-to-date content delivery.
  • Mentor junior engineers: Guide junior team members, promoting best practices in development and architecture.
  • Collaborate with founders: Align technical initiatives with company vision and product roadmap, supporting strategic growth.
  • Manage infrastructure: Ensure scalability and security in technical architecture, supporting a growing user base.
  • Lead the engineering team: Recruit, develop, and lead a high-performing engineering team, fostering a culture of innovation.

Requirements

  • Location: Hybrid role based in San Francisco.
  • Experience: 5+ years working with production distributed systems and service-oriented architecture.
  • Expertise: Deep knowledge of load balancers, databases, queuing, caching, HTTP, APIs, high availability, fault tolerance, and redundancy.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in TypeScript, with experience in Python, Go, or Java, and a readiness to work with TypeScript/Node.
  • Full-Stack Capability: Familiar with React and comfortable handling frontend tasks as needed.
