Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Custodian - Substitute to join our team at Glendale Community College. As a Custodian - Substitute, you will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and organization of our facilities, ensuring a safe and healthy environment for students, faculty, and staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of assigned buildings and grounds, including classrooms, laboratories, restrooms, lobbies, stairways, and hallways.
  • Perform a variety of custodial and maintenance tasks, including sweeping, mopping, buffing, waxing, and sealing floors, as well as cleaning windows, walls, and furniture.
  • Operate a variety of cleaning equipment and tools, including vacuum cleaners, buffers, and small power tools.
  • Assist with moving furniture and equipment, and preparing for events.
  • Perform minor non-technical repairs and adjustments to equipment and buildings.
  • Identify and report needed repairs and vandalism to supervisor or lead custodian.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Six (6) months of custodial or general maintenance experience.
  • Ability to read and follow safety instructions and labels on cleaning supplies and equipment.
  • Ability to use custodial cleaning supplies and maintenance equipment, including a vacuum cleaner, buffer, small power and hand tools.
  • Ability to assemble and move large equipment, furniture, and other items.
  • Ability to observe and report needed maintenance and repairs.
  • Ability to operate an electric vehicle on the campus as assigned.
  • Ability to prioritize work and complete assignments accurately and within established deadlines.
  • Ability to provide and obtain detailed information to/from others.
  • Ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Ability to provide customer service with a high level of sensitivity, tact, and patience.
  • Ability to exercise reasonable judgment in performing job duties.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with all employees and others encountered in the course of work.
Working Conditions

This is a temporary substitute position on an as-needed basis. Schedule will vary as needed for coverage.
