Supervisory Medical Support Assistant

The Supervisory Medical Support Assistant is a key role in the Veterans Health Administration, responsible for supervising and directing the work of Medical Support Assistants in a patient support setting. This position requires strong leadership and communication skills, as well as the ability to collaborate with internal and external customers to ensure quality and continuity of care.
Key Responsibilities
• Supervise and direct the work of Medical Support Assistants in a patient support setting
• Collaborate with internal and external customers to ensure quality and continuity of care
• Develop and implement policies and procedures to improve clinic operations
• Provide training and development opportunities for Medical Support Assistants
• Evaluate and oversee the work of Medical Support Assistants
Requirements
• One year of experience equivalent to the GS-7 grade level leading or supervising Medical Support Assistants or equivalent administrative patient support staff in a non-VA medical inpatient, outpatient, or interdisciplinary setting
• Ability to provide the full range of administrative and supervisory duties in a patient support setting
• Ability to collaborate, communicate, and demonstrate customer service and interpersonal skills with internal and external customers
• Ability to provide briefings, orientations, staff development, and training related to administrative functions in a patient support setting
• Ability to delegate authority, evaluate and oversee people and programs, accomplish program goals, and adapt to changing priorities
Working Conditions
The work is primarily sedentary with prolonged periods of sitting. The work requires moderate lifting, carrying, pushing, standing; reaching above shoulder; use of fingers; ability to read without strain; ability to hear the whispered voice with or without hearing aid; emotional & mental stability.
