Job Overview

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is seeking a skilled Highway Survey Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our survey team, you will play a crucial role in the operation of manual and electronic equipment for various types of surveys.

About the Role

In this position, you will be responsible for operating a Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) workstation to transform survey data into foundational maps essential for the creation and preparation of highway or bridge plans. Your duties will include:

  • Setting up, operating, adjusting, and maintaining various survey instruments
  • Establishing centerlines, measuring angles, and verifying the alignment of structures
  • Staking out tangents, curve stations, and reference control points

You will also assist in employing a range of Global Positioning System (GPS) receivers and methodologies to pinpoint mapping and survey-grade locations. Additionally, you will perform trigonometric and algebraic calculations, prepare field sketches and notes, and review the work of colleagues for accuracy.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you must have:

  • One year of experience in highway or bridge surveying, design, construction, or inspection work; or
  • One year of experience in quality control of materials or building or construction industry experience, which includes reading and interpreting blueprints, plans, or schematics; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training

As a Highway Survey Specialist, you will work full-time, with a typical schedule of 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday through Friday. You may have the opportunity to telework part-time on an ad-hoc basis. The estimated salary for this position is $55,000-$65,000 per year, depending on qualifications and experience.
