Child Life Specialist

The Child Life Specialist at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Health provides essential psychosocial support to children and families navigating the healthcare environment. This role is a vital part of our Child Life Program, which aims to help children and families acclimate to the hospital setting and manage challenging situations.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess and interact with patients and families using theories of human growth and development, family systems, and cultural background.
- Provide a therapeutic and safe environment for individuals and groups aged 18 and under.
- Assist patients in coping with the stress of hospitalization, illness, new diagnosis, death, and/or loss.
- Participate in patient and family teaching.
- Integrate the Child Life Program into the healthcare team.
- Represent, communicate, and document child life and psychosocial issues of pediatric healthcare to others.
- Oversee child life interns and volunteers.
- Develop, implement, document, and evaluate child life services.
- Meet with the Child Life Program team to review daily activities and patient care needs.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science/Arts in Child Life, Human Resources, Child Development, or Psychology, with a focus on the hospitalized child.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills essential.
Preferred Qualifications
- Child Life certification or pending.
