Job Summary

The Accountant III plays a crucial role in the financial operations of L.A. Care Health Plan, a leading public agency providing health coverage to low-income Los Angeles County residents. As a key member of the accounting team, this position is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial data, supporting regulatory and financial audits, and providing expert guidance on accounting principles and standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform daily general ledger accounting, financial reporting, and account reconciliations to ensure timely and accurate financial data.
  • Support regulatory and financial audits, including financial statement footnotes, to ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulations.
  • Work closely with the financial planning and analysis team to ensure operational spend is accurately recorded in the general ledger.
  • Reconcile bank accounts, investigate exception items, and maintain fixed asset subledgers and lease schedules.
  • Contribute to the management and governance of the chart of accounts, including documentation of changes, system testing, and structure and design.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field.
  • At least 4 years of proven work experience as an accountant or similar role in a finance/accounting environment.
  • Hands-on experience with financial and statistical software.
  • Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) accounting/reporting.
  • Expertise in MS Excel (creating spreadsheets and using advanced formulas).
  • Familiarity with finance databases.
  • Up-to-date with accounting guidance and regulations.
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to present financial data using detailed reports and charts.
  • Demonstrable strategic thinking skills.
  • Confidentiality in handling sensitive financial information.
  • Excellent written, verbal communication, and presentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Project Management Skills.
  • Knowledge of Solomon Accounting System in the healthcare industry.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
