Patient Transporter

This role is an integral part of the healthcare setting service, responsible for transporting patients to and from various nursing units, clinics, and diagnostic and therapeutic units. The incumbent receives assignments from the appropriate employee in charge of patient and messenger escort, in accordance with operational procedures determined by healthcare setting leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Obtain patient escort assignments from a dispatched electronic system such as EPIC.
Introduce self to patient, explain the nature of the assignment, and escort the patient from their pick-up location to their designated area until someone else assumes responsibility for the patient.
Transport patients in wheelchair, stretcher, or bed, including those with intravenous apparatus to and from various nursing units, clinics, and other diagnostic and therapeutic units, etc.
Maintain control of patients' charts and release same only to authorized personnel.
Transport bodies to the mortuary, place in refrigerator or morgue tray, transport fetus or amputated parts to the mortuary.
Pick up and deliver specimens, blood products, medical equipment, etc., to requested areas.
Requirements
Elementary school graduation or equivalent ability to effectively communicate with patients.
Ability to keep simple clinical records.
Knowledge of and ability to read and comprehend the Patient Transport request from a Rover transmitted by the EPIC electronic transport system.
Skill to communicate clearly with patients, staff, and/or visitors.
Ability to appropriately maneuver patients safely in wheelchair, stretcher, and/or bed as well as transferring patient from wheelchair, stretcher, exam table, bed, etc.
