Job Summary

The Keck Medicine of USC is seeking a skilled Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) to join our Surgery Clinic team. As an LVN, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and supporting the clinical operations of the department.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist Registered Nurses in providing care to patients, utilizing the Nursing Process to deliver therapeutic care.
  • Provide day-to-day staff, logistical, and administrative support to the Surgery Clinic, including scheduling appointments, screening phone calls, and communicating with patients.
  • Contribute to the evaluation of individualized interventions related to the care plan or treatment plan.
  • Administer medications, provide direct patient care, and perform basic secretarial and medical transcription duties.
  • Enter charges into the system accurately and in a timely manner, handle telephone calls, and write correspondences.
  • Serve as a liaison between physicians and other individuals, take patient histories, and vital signs, and implement an effective patient flow.
  • Perform first aid and CPR if needed, assist physicians with exams and treatments, and organize pharmacy refill requests for physician approval.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Graduate of an accredited Vocational Nursing Program required.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work with physicians, staff, and patients required.
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Word and Internet access and utilization required.
  • Excellent customer service behavior and strong interpersonal skills to handle sensitive situations and confidential information required.
  • Able to make decisions effectively and with appropriate stakeholder input required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 2 years of experience in an acute care or ambulatory care setting preferred.
  • LVN - Intravenous Therapy Certification (CA DCA) preferred.
Required Licenses/Certifications
  • Valid California Vocational Nursing license required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider from American Heart Association required.
  • Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) required if no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date.
