Job Summary

Dorman Products is seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineer to join our team. As a Mechanical Engineer, you will play a crucial role in the development and improvement of our products. Your expertise will be utilized to implement and coordinate various engineering projects, ensuring the quality and reliability of our products.


Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with product line managers and purchasing to develop products using reverse engineering best practices.
  • Produce product documentation that accurately identifies product dimensional and performance requirements.
  • Direct, coordinate, or fabricate prototype product samples and test equipment builds.
  • Work with the product team to prepare and implement design modifications and manage changes.
  • Manage the requirements for PPAP and review accompanying documentation.
  • Analyze test data and reports to determine if design meets functional, reliability, and quality requirements.
  • Identify process weaknesses and recommend corrective actions by interpreting process certifications and flow charts.
  • Create and maintain the requirements for incoming and source inspection processes.
  • Evaluate product warranty information, root cause quality concerns, and implement design/process improvements.

Requirements
  • Experience in Reverse Engineering or Product Design.
  • Thorough knowledge of Solidworks or other CAD software.
  • Thorough knowledge of GD&T drafting techniques.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel and Access.
  • Knowledge of EPDM or other PDM software.
  • Understanding of manufacturing capabilities, including machining, stamping, casting, injection molding, and electronics assembly.
  • Experience in a cross-functional team.
  • Basic knowledge of automotive mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Physical Requirement: Ability to lift 20 pounds.
  • Working Conditions: Moderate noise level.

Education / Experience
  • Technical degree (BS) in mechanical engineering or associate degree with 2+ years of experience.
