Job Summary

This is a Direct Hire Open Continuous Announcement for the Advanced Practice Nurse (Nurse Practitioner) in the following locations:

Duties
  • Order, perform or interpret the results of diagnostic tests.
  • Analyze and interpret patient's histories, symptoms, physical findings or diagnostic information to develop appropriate diagnoses.
  • Develop treatment plans based on scientific rationale, standards of care and professional practice guidelines.
  • Make decisions concerning medical care needs of patients, which may involve various treatment modalities, prescribed medications, consults and referrals.
  • Diagnose or treat acute health care problems such as illnesses, infections and injuries. Prescribe medications based on efficacy, safety, dosage and frequencies.
  • Counsel patients about drug regimen and possible side effects or interactions with other substances such as food supplements, over-the-counter (OTC) medications and herbal remedies.
  • Recommend interventions to modify behavior associated with health risks.
  • Educate patients about self-management of acute or chronic illnesses, tailoring instructions to patient's individual circumstances.
Requirements
  • Must pass pre-employment examination.
  • Selectee may be subject to a probationary period.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S) :

Education : A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

Degree from Foreign Nursing School : Official certification from the National Council of State Boards of Nursing is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.

Advanced Practice Nurse Positions:

For Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) positions, applicants must possess a graduate or higher level degree in nursing from an accredited educational program in the area of expertise or specialty indicated by the position.

Areas of specialties for positions at these locations may include, but are not limited to,

Acute Care, Adult/Geriatric, Emergency, Family, Pediatric, Psychiatric, Women's Health, or other specialties

identified for the position.

Licensure:

For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

Additional License Requirements for Advanced Practice Nurse Positions:

Applicants for Advanced Practice Nurse positions must be licensed or registered by a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States in the clinical specialty required by the position.

Experience

:

The work experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. At the GS-9 and above grade level, many positions may require experience in a specialty area of nursing.

GS-13 Basic Requirements:

In addition to the mandatory license and education described above under Basic Requirements applicants must have at least one or more full years of Professional Nursing experience in the clinical specialty of the position that is equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-12):

Independent practice as a nurse practitioner, including duties such as, but not limited to: analyzing and interpreting patients' histories, symptoms, physical findings or diagnostic information to develop appropriate diagnoses, prescribing medications, managing acute and chronic care conditions, and developing treatment plans.
