Job Title: Substance Use Counselor II

At the University of Maryland Medical System, we are seeking a highly skilled Substance Use Counselor II to join our multidisciplinary treatment team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for evaluating patients and coordinating individual and group counseling sessions, with a focus on patient education, behavior modification, and relapse prevention.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform a full range of clinical counseling services for patients, including individual and group sessions.
  • Demonstrate leadership in clinical practice, professional development, service quality, and unit operations.
  • Participate in or develop performance improvement initiatives to enhance the quality of counseling practice.
  • Assist with the education and development of Counselor I and interns, providing guidance and support to ensure their success.
  • Lead activities to promote Joint Commission readiness and ongoing monitoring, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in unit-based research activities, councils, or committees to enhance the quality of counseling practice and contribute to the development of new initiatives.
  • Develop interest in a service specialty by engaging in or creating opportunities in the specialty, staying up-to-date with the latest research and best practices.
  • Pursue membership in professional organizations and demonstrate active participation, staying connected with the broader counseling community.
  • Support and comply with the University of Maryland's mission, vision, values, philosophy, goals, objectives, and policies, upholding the highest standards of professionalism and integrity.
  • Identify areas impacting unit operations and assist in developing and implementing action plans to address these challenges and improve overall performance.
  • Contribute to the development of unit-based peer review processes and actively participate in peer feedback and case reviews, promoting a culture of continuous learning and improvement.

Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree required.
  • Must hold one of the following certifications or licenses: Certified Supervised Counselor - Alcohol and Drug (CSC-AD), Certified Associate Counselor - Alcohol and Drug (CAC-AD), Licensed Graduate Alcohol & Drug Counselor (LGADC), Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor (LGPC), or Licensed Masters Social Worker (LMSW).
  • Preferred: At least two years of experience in Substance Use Disorder Counseling, with a strong background in clinical practice and leadership.
