Job Description

Job Summary:

The Surfrider Foundation is seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to lead our coastal conservation policy efforts in California. As the California Policy Associate Director, you will be responsible for advancing the organization's mission by developing and implementing effective policy strategies, building coalitions, and engaging with stakeholders to protect and preserve California's coastal and marine ecosystems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement policy strategies to advance the Surfrider Foundation's mission in California.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including state and local government officials, coastal communities, and ocean conservation organizations.
  • Engage in advocacy and outreach efforts to promote the Surfrider Foundation's policy priorities.
  • Collaborate with the West Coast Regional Director and other team members to develop and implement regional and national policy initiatives.
  • Supervise and manage the California Sr. Policy Coordinator and San Diego County Policy Manager.

Requirements:

  • Graduate degree in environmental management, ocean policy, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience working in environmental policy and advocacy.
  • Strong knowledge of California's coastal and marine ecosystems, as well as state and federal policies related to coastal conservation.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks and projects.
