Job Summary

CNA seeks a highly skilled Underwriting Specialist to join our team. As an Underwriting Specialist, you will be responsible for assessing the acceptability of complex underwriting risks, developing specialized endorsement language, and determining appropriate pricing for assigned business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform diagnostic and systematic analysis to assess acceptability of complex underwriting risks
  • Develop specialized endorsement language for highly complex risk
  • Determine appropriate pricing of complex risks for assigned book of business
  • Make recommendations on underwriting policy and pricing strategy
  • Analyze quality, quantity, and profitability of highly complex risks underwritten
  • Market products and services through agencies or the brokerage community
  • Develop and maintain agency and/or broker relationships with large producers
  • Keep current on state/territory issues and regulations, industry activity, and trends
  • Mentor and guide less experienced underwriters

Requirements

  • Advanced technical expertise, underwriting skill, and high level of knowledge of insurance and underwriting principles, practices, and procedures
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and presentation skills
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to deal with ambiguous situations and issues
  • Creativity in resolving unique and challenging business problems
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and other business-related software
  • Demonstrated leadership skills

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • Typically a minimum eight years underwriting experience
