School Safety and Security Specialist

The Science Academies of NY is seeking a highly skilled School Safety Officer to join our team. This role is responsible for maintaining order and ensuring compliance with the school district's code of conduct, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
Main Responsibilities:
- Maintain order and compliance with the SANY Charter School District's Code of Conduct, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations
- Monitor school stakeholder activities (in and around the assigned building(s)) to ensure highest levels of safety and security
- PatroIlate school buildings and grounds to observe, report, and respond to suspicious and/or dangerous behaviors or activities
- Attend all safety meetings, and building(s) faculty meetings and share a report (if applicable) with the committee members in attendance
- Prevent any unauthorized individuals from entering school grounds
- Supervise extracurricular events and contests as deemed necessary by the SANY District Safety Coordinator and/or their designee
- Coordinate and assist with all building(s) safety drills (evacuations, lockdown drills, shelter-in-place, lockout, etc.)
- Monitor the building surveillance system(s)
- Assist with safety trainings within the school community (visit classrooms, present at staff meetings and parent meetings, and communicate with administration on current safety and security best practices)
- Maintain a visible presence throughout the school community
- Collaborate with community agencies to ensure that highest levels of safety and security
- Serve as a liaison with law enforcement agencies
Requirements:
- Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college/university with an associate's degree and 1 (one) year experience as a Deputy Sheriff, Policy Officer, New York State Police, Military Police/Special Forces, or New York State Park Police
- Or Graduation from high school or the possession of a high school equivalency diploma and 3 (three) years of experience as a Deputy Sheriff, Policy Officer, New York State Police, or New York State Park Police
- An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the above requirements
- Experience in an urban setting
- Taken de-escalation training
Salary: $65,000 - $85,000 per year, depending on experience
